I know that we are still in the qualifying stages of the world cup but it would be good to keep track of some important African strikers in the major leagues and watch their build up and the roles they play both in their leagues and the countries they play for.

Lets start with the BBC African player of the year 2008 and the African player of the year 2008 Emmanuel Adebayor. This is one of the most phenomenal players in Africa. He is a Togolese national. He is a strong and dominant figure, very powerful and lethal when it comes to air ball. But I have one problem with him. He needs 50 chances in order to put in one goal. Ok that’s exaggerated but its close. He is not as lethal on the ground. But I am impressed with the way that he is able place the ball round keepers and his celebration dance (together with his Arsenal name sake Emmanuel Eboue) also excites me. I believe he has the will to do more. His shot is not as powerful but he can be a really big disturbance to defences. Ade we are watching you!

Another deadly striker in front of the goal is Didier Drogba, the Ivorian striker. Ok, so the 2008-2009 season has not been his best but for sure he is lethal in front of goal. I believe at full fitness, this guy can tear down defenses single-handedly and ashame defenders. He is big, strong and very fast, a rare combination of a striker. He has a killer shot which I know all goal keepers in the FA premier league dread. Try and stop his shot and either get hurt or…..read the complete article and more More information on the Confederations Cup 2009 here.

Draw enough for top two to progress
The two favourites to progress from Group A meet on Tuesday knowing a draw will be enough for both sides to reach the second round. Though a tie is the ideal scenario for both nations, one hopes that there will be no repeat of West Germany’s mutually beneficial 1-0 win over Austria at the 1982 finals. With the team that comes second in Group A facing the daunting prospect of Argentina in the second round, there is certainly plenty left for Mexico and Uruguay to play for.

Mexico have shown plenty of attacking promise, with Giovani Dos Santos emerging as a key creative figure for Javier Aguirre’s side, and their victory against France was just reward for a policy of throwing caution to the wind. But question marks remain over their defence, and with a real tendency to leave large spaces on the wings, Uruguay’s pair of Pereiras – Alvaro and Maxi – have the ability to punish them in a way that Les Bleus didn’t manage. Mexico’s failure to convert their chances proved costly in the 1-1 draw with South Africa, but against France they proved they have the ability to add substance to their unquestionable style.

After a cagey approach to the opening 0-0 draw with France, Oscar Tabarez unleashed Diego Forlan to devastating effect against South Africa. Edinson Cavani was brought into partner Luis Suarez up front, with Forlan moving back into the hole, where the Atletico Madrid forward was free to drop deep and influence the game – even netting two goals for his troubles. The formation change also gave Luis Suarez a new lease of life as he created two of Uruguay’s goals and the South American’s renewed attacking freedom means Mexico’s Rafael Marquez will likely be charged with keeping a watchful eye on the in-form Forlan.

Uruguay player to watch: Diego Perez. The unsung hero of the Uruguay side, Perez provides a combatative and steely presence in midfield, doing all the ugly work so the more creative players can flourish. Without Perez, the likes of Diego Forlan, Alvaro Pereira and Luis Suarez would not have the ball to work with; he is a vital cog in the thus far efficient Uruguay machine.

Mexico player to watch: Cuauhtemoc Blanco . At 37 years old, legendary striker Blanco is the oldest player to have appeared at the 2010 finals and has taken up the Roger Milla-esque role of veteran super sub. Having been overlooked for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Mexican public were delighted by Javier Aguirre’s decision to recall the cult figure to the national team set-up. His goal against France means he has now scored in three finals (1998, 2002 and 2010) and the man who brought us the bunny-hop still has the touch and football brain to cause any team problems.

Key Battle: Guillermo Franco v Diego Lugano. Uruguay have yet to concede at this year’s finals, and the presence of defensive colossus and team captain Lugano has been key to their two clean sheets. Imperious in the air and hard in the tackle, Lugano takes no prisoners, which does not bode well for misfiring Mexico striker Guillermo Franco. Having scored in a warm-up game against England, Franco has regressed to the profligate figure West Ham fans were accustomed to watching last season. He does possess good anticipation and seven international goals says that he can score at this level, but he will need something special to escape Lugano’s clutches.

Trivia: Seven different players recorded multiple-goal games for Uruguay in its first three trips to the World Cup (1930, 1950, and 1954), including Oscar Miguez, who did it three times. But Diego Forlan was the first Uruguayan player to score twice in a World Cup match since Juan Hohberg scored a brace against Hungary in 1954.

Stats: Mexico striker Javier Hernandez (age 22) and Cauhetemoc Blanco (37) set a record of sorts by scoring against France. Never before had a pair of teammates that far apart in age scored in the same World Cup match.

Odds: Mexico (3.75), Uruguay (4.30), the draw (1.80) are all on offer at Bet365, while Diego Forlan is attractively priced at 6.50 to score the first goal.

Prediction: Though neither side will be keen on facing Argentina, what’s more important is that they both progress to the second round. It’s a match that seems to scream Latin flair, but in reality will be a tight contest that threatens to end in the draw that both nations need.

Tuesday 22nd June 2010
Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Kick-off: 15:00

Aguirre will not settle for draw

Mexico coach Javier Aguirre has stressed the importance of winning the Group A match against Uruguay and insists his side will not settle for a draw that would take both teams through.

There are fears the two sides may play out a stalemate at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium – and dump rivals South Africa and France out of the competition in the process.

FIFA stated last week they expect all 32 finalists in South Africa to play fairly and Aguirre is adamant his side will be going all out to win.

“We’re going to try and win,” the El Tri boss said. “We can be first, second, third or even fourth in the group.

“The law of the Mexican side is to win. If as a consequence of what happens on the pitch there’s a draw or a defeat and we both qualify with no major goal differences, then we’ll both be happy.

“But I can guarantee the Mexican side is going to go out there to try and win.”

The Mexicans, who have a solid record at World Cups having reached the last 16 in four straight tournaments since 1994, also have the added incentive of avoiding a clash with Argentina in the second round if they can top the group.

Aguirre continued: “My players are very relaxed and know they can be either first or second in the group. They know they have to be fully focussed because we still haven’t achieved anything, so we have no reason to feel happy.

“Mathematically we still don’t have our ticket to the next round and we have to try and take those three points, so that we can achieve our aims for the first round.”

Aguirre’s side have had an excellent tournament so far, drawing the opening match against the hosts 1-1, before easing past France 2-0.

The coach believes their pre-tournament work is finally paying off.

He added: “We’ve been working together now for about 75 days. Judging by the players’ behaviour on and off the pitch, I think we’re doing very well.

“We’re in good form. I don’t have variables to measure the mood, the physical status and the footballing feeling of the team.

“But all the games we’ve played together, I’ve seen huge enthusiasm, all with a will and wish to win. We lost against England and Holland but we’ve always been enthusiastic.

“We’ve defended our style and our approach. Of course, we’ve made mistakes and we’ve paid a high price. I hope we don’t make mistakes and have a perfect game and can win.”

Two players will definitely be out for Mexico – Arsenal striker Carlos Vela, who has a hamstring problem, and the suspended Efrain Juarez.

“We are very sad about Vela, that’s a concern,” said Aguirre. “But I’ve got 21 players available and their all physically and mentally very strong.”

Oscar Tabarez is not worried about who his Uruguay team may play in the next round despite a potential South American derby against Argentina being on the cards.

La Celeste are on the brink of securing a place in the last 16 and a point against Mexico will ensure their progress.

It will also keep them in the number one position in Group A and help avoid a meeting with their continental neighbours, who are on course to top Group B.

However, Tabarez said: “I’m not even thinking about future matches. It’s not a question of wanting to play with this team or that other team and I’m certainly not praying to do that or lighting candles.

“I’ve participated in prior World Cups and I know you have to come to a World Cup not thinking about this. We know which rivals we’re going to have to play months in advance and all the possible permutations.

“What we want to do is qualify for the next round and in addition we want to top the group if we can but not because we want to avoid Argentina. So I’ve certainly not stopped to think about this.”

As for those thinking the two countries may play out a deliberate draw that will render the South Africa-France clash meaningless. Tabarez added: “I think it’s just lots of people being creative and also lacking respect for those of us, the players and the coaches, that are going to be playing in that match.

“But people can talk for free, so let’s just leave it there.”

Socceroos focused on Germany shock
Germany may have restored some international pride four years ago as they reached the semi-finals on home soil, but the perception of Germany as one of the pre-tournament favourites is a thing of the past.

The loss of Michael Ballack to an ankle injury, thanks to a late tackle from the German-born Kevin-Prince Boateng in the FA Cup final last month, meant coach Joachim Low effectively had to rip up his plans for South Africa and start again. The Germany captain was the fulcrum of the team both on and off the pitch, and the loss of such an inspirational figure is hard to cope with at such a late stage. Replacing the experienced 33-year-old Ballack with a 21-year-old international rookie in Mesut Ozil is a risk, but it could be a master-stroke if Ozil adapts to the pace of the World Cup quickly.

Much will rest on the shoulders of new captain Phillip Lahm, while Bastian Schweinsteiger will become the lynchpin of the midfield, allowing Ozil to push on in search of goals and become the key to open up Australia’s defence.

With Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose woefully short of form, Germany may have to rely on their defence performing well to reach the latter stages. There’s certainly no reason why Australia should not go into the game with some confidence.

Australia’s main worry is a lack of depth to their squad and any striker worthy of the name. With Harry Kewell struggling with injury and and Scott McDonald surprisingly left at home, coach Pim Verbeek is left to rely on the untried Nikita Rukavytsya, Brett Holman for Joshua Kennedy goals.

With the Australia squad ageing, the athleticism and drive which the side possessed under Guus Hiddink four years ago could be missing, and without that the Socceroos will become a very one-dimensional side. And the threadbare nature of Verbeek’s squad also makes any Plan B difficult to execute.

Brett Emerton and Mark Bresciano will look to add creativity and width for Australia but without a focal point for the attacks it could be that they too find themselves sitting deeper than they would like. This may especially be the case for Emerton who now plays as a right-back for his club, Blackburn Rovers.

Germany player in focus: Mesut Ozil. The loss of Michael Ballack to injury means Ozil will come into the side and get the chance to make his mark on the World Cup earlier than he would have expected. The Werder Bremen midfielder was a central figure in the Germany team which won the European Under-21 Championships last year and, with just 10 international caps to his name, now gets the chance on the biggest of stages. A player with a cultured left foot, his lack of consistency could be Germany’s downfall.

Australia player in focus: Tim Cahill. While it might be obvious to say that the threat of Cahill from set-pieces will be no surprise to the German defence, his ability to lose his marker time and again in the Premier League proves that even the best prepared teams struggle to deal with his threat. With a dearth of attacking options open to Pim Verbeek, he will rely on Cahill’s heading prowess to help power the Socceroos through to the Second Round for the second successive finals. With 20 goals in 40 international appearances, Cahill is more prolific than any of the nation’s current strikers.

Key battle: Lucas Neill v Miroslav Klose. Klose may only be behind Gerd Muller in goalscoring for Germany, but the 2009-10 season was one to forget for the Bayern Munich striker. After scoring only three goals all season, Klose was woeful in Germany’s warm-up games. But coach Joachim Low has thrown his support behind Klose, a proven and dangerous tournament performance. Despite his recent woes, his bustling style will mean Lucas Neill will need to be on his toes at the heart of the Australia defence. An out-of-sorts Klose is still more troublesome than most of the strikers at the World Cup.

Trivia: Australia scored the most goals in any World Cup qualifier after beating American Samoa 31-0 in 2001.

Stats: Germany’s Miroslav Klose has scored 48 goals in 96 games for Germany, but he managed just three in the league for his club this season.

Odds: Germany (1.50), the draw (4.20), Australia (7.00) with Bet365. Tim Cahill to score the last goal at 13.00 is a tempting offer.

Prediction: Australia may not have strength in depth and little to offer up front, but this Ballack-less Germany side still has plenty of questions to answer. Germany should win, but it won’t be as straight forward as the odds suggest.

Germany Vs Australia Team Profile:
Germany :Group D
The perennial bridesmaid of the World Cup and the European Championships after the turn of the century, Germany are looking to shed the tag of ‘best loser’ in South Africa, and capture their first international title since their Euro ‘96 triumph.Germany cruised through qualification to South Africa, but Joachim Low’s penchant for tinkering with his squad has seen his teams struggle for dominance in matches they should be winning, particularly in their game against Finland.Low will be looking to his veterans of Michael Ballack, Miroslav Klose and Torten Frings to finally win one for Die Mannschaft.

Chances for Germany to win fifa world cup 2010:
Perennial strong performers in tournaments, Low’s side are sure to be contenders again in South Africa. If the likes of Ballack, Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez click then a quarter-final spot could be the very least they could expect.

Australia : Group D
Australia comfortably secured back-to-back World Cup Finals qualification by going through the Final round of Asia Qualification Group games undefeated. They suffered a few scares in the previous qualification Group, but with established players such as Harry Kewell (Galatasaray), Tim Cahill (Everton) and Mark Schwarzer (Fulham) in their squad, they will be looking to go beyond the second round place they earned in 2006.

Now part of the Asian Football Confederation, Pim Verbeek’s “Socceroos” have experience, a physical presence and self-belief. They also carry anger into the finals believing they were harshly treated in conceding defeat only to a late penalty against Italy in 2006.

Chances for Australia to win fifa world cup 2010:
Impressive under Guus Hiddink at the 2006 finals, they will believe they have a good chance to at least match their run to the last 16 in South Africa but the group stage draw will have caused some consternation.

Mexico hasn’t been very successful at national team level, since they only managed to reach the World Cup quarter finals on two occasions (both in World Cups held in Mexico). However, soccer teams in Mexico gradually became more powerful and today they are considered a force to be reckoned with in American soil as well as on an international club level.

I was planning to make a top 5 of the Mexico soccer teams, but I decided against ranking them, because that might stir some trouble with the fans, such as a fan asking why is team over team in the ranking, since won more championships and so forth. Here are what I believe to be the most important soccer teams in Mexico, ranked by alphabet only :) .

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Club America

Club America was founded in 1916, being one of the oldest professional clubs in Mexico, although the first league title was not to be won until 1956-1966. They’re currently the owners of 10 national championships, being only second to Chivas de Guadalajara, who have won 11 titles in their history. The two are the most successful soccer teams in Mexico from a silverware point of view and Chivas is the historical nemesis of America, so a match between the two is a derby that the entire country awaits.

Club America gets credit for discovering or highlighting players such as Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Enrique Borja, Carlos Hermosillo, Pavel Pardo, Zizinho, Claudio Lopez, Ivan Zamorano or Ilie Dumitrescu.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Chivas de Guadalajara

The club’s official name is Club Deportivo Guadalajara, but every soccer fan in Mexico knows them as Chivas (the goats). Their tally of 11 league titles makes Chivas the most successful of all soccer teams in Mexico, trailing arch-nemesis America by one title. They’re also very loved for their Mexican-only policy, in that they never use foreigners and focus only on local Mexican players.

Their popularity reaches far beyond the borders of Mexico and into the United States, where a team called Chivas USA was formed. The Mexican Chivas have credit for launching players such as Salvador Reyes, Omar Bravo, Claudio Suarez, Juan Palencia, Gonzalo Pineda, Luis Garcia or Carlos Hermosillo.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Pachuca

Despite being the oldest club in Mexican soccer history, being founded in 1901, Pachuca has only become truly competitive in the past few decades. Winning the Primera Division 5 times in the last 8 years and the CONCACAF Champions Cup twice, in 2002 and 2007, Pachuca rose to become a force amongst the soccer teams in Mexico.

The most notable players that got to play for Pachuca include: Jared Borgetti, Jaime Correa, Fausto Pinto, Damian Alvarez, Mosquera, Ivan Hurtado and Juan Arango.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Pumas

Because of the team’s close relation to UNAM, the largest university in Mexico, the club became known as UNAM Pumas, although their official name is Club Universidad Nacional A.C. Although the Pumas don’t have the same history as some of the other top soccer clubs in Mexico, having been founded in 1954, they definitely made their years of existence count, winning 5 league champs, 3 CONCACAF Cups, 1 Interamerican Cup as well as several smaller silverware.

Amongst the players that wore the Pumas logo on their shirt in the club’s fifty-year existence, the most important are: Enrique Borja, Hugo Sanchez, Jorge Campos, Alberto Aspe, Luis Garcia, Esteban Solari, Emerson, Ailton da Silva or Dario Veron.

> Mexico Soccer Teams – Toluca

Toluca was a force amongst the soccer teams in Mexico ever since the 1960s, having won 8 championship titles since then. Ever since Toluca’s founding in 1917, they have been known as an offensive team who throws their dice on the attackers, somewhat neglecting the defensive part of the game. This philosophy was a double edged sword, as Toluca varied between relegation places and titles in the 60s and 70s.

Obviously, today this attacking mentality is a lot less noticeable and Toluca’s game has become more tactical. Some of the notable players that wore Toluca’s red and white shirt include: Enrique Alfaro, Zinha, Pedro Romero, Enzo Trossero, Dario Rodriguez, Jose Cardozo, Fabian Estay, Darko Vukic and Juan Antonio Pizzi.

Where I live I often see ads on telephone poles, street signs, and in the newspaper stating something like this:

“Earn thousand of dollars a month – from your home – Processing Medical Billing Claims.”

On the surface these ads may seem appealing. However, what’s behind these may be a work at home scam. Often these types of ads do not fully disclose all of the details. For example, they do not tell you that:

* You may have to work many hours without pay

* There may be a charge for more information or an entry fee

* You may have to spend your own money placing newspaper ads in order to get work

* You may have to purchase your own supplies, such envelopes, paper, stamps, and equipment

* You may have to pay for your training, which usually comes in the form of instructions or “tutorial” software

Please know that people deceived by these ads have lost thousands of dollars, time, and energy. It’s sad, but true and leaves a person feeling discouraged and extremely disappointed.

Similarly, have you ever seen a home-based jobs ad that said something such as “No Experience Necessary?” Well, if you’re looking for legitimate work at home jobs steer clear of any that say you do not need experience – unless they offer to pay for your training.

Why? Because companies do not hire people who do not have experience, especially if those people are going to work from home. Here are a few reasons why:

* The training process would be too difficult.

* Companies look for telecommuters who have experience in the type of work the job requires one to produce.

* Companies look for people who have a proven track record working independently with no supervision.

You can protect yourself. In order to avoid work at home scams, ask the following 5 questions:

1. What tasks will you have to perform? Ask the program sponsor to list every step of the job.

2. How will you be paid? Ask if you’re going to be paid a salary, hourly or based on a commission? If it is commission based what is the percentage, how often will you be paid, and how are they keeping track of the work from which your commission will be based?

3. Who will pay you?

4. When will you get your first paycheck?

5. Ideally, you should not have to pay for anything. But, if you are presented with costs, ask the following questions to see if you’re okay with what is required: What is the total cost of the work-at-home program, including supplies, equipment and membership fees? What will you get for your money?

Get the answers to these questions. The answers will help you determine if a particular home based job is right for you and whether or not it is legitimate.

Working from home has become the new dream for millions of people.

Plugging away in cubicles away from home, people now daydream about having a home office, enjoying the flexibility of being able to work and play according to their own needs and schedules, and ditching their commute.

With more and more people now finding ways to work at home, the new challenge has become learning to separate work and family obligations effectively. Whether you are working in a flex-time arrangement with your employer or have started your own business, if you find yourself facing productivity or focus challenges, read on for some tips on managing the work at home environment.

Set guidelines: Being able to focus on work when your family or significant other is around is crucial, and you must create and communicate new guidelines for how you want things to be. The trick to having this be effective is to talk to your family (or even friends who tend to call frequently) about how this will benefit them. Put things in terms of what this will mean to them if they respect your privacy and need to focus on your work during certain hours. For instance, if your kids tend to run to you with every little question, interrupting your work frequently, explain to them that by allowing you to work in peace, they are helping you work towards the things they love and which have meaning for them – that new video game, for instance, or time spent together. Always use positive promises (<em>”If I am able to work in silence for two hours I can then take you to the park – yay!”</em>) rather than negative threats (<em>”If you don’t stop yelling and running around you are NOT going to the park later!”).
Enlist help: Further to the previous point, you can enlist the co-operation of those around you in helping to keep the house in order while you work. Housework should not be solely the job of one person, and you are doing your part in creating co-operative, responsible people by insisting everyone do their part. Because you are at home, you may find your family expects more of you around the house, rather than less. Set your boundaries and ensure your worklife is respected, and do so by keeping open communication about what is expected of everyone.
Praise good behavior: Always try and catch people in ‘good’ behavior. When your kids play outside quietly, allowing you to work for two hours, praise them lavishly (not falsely), and reward them by spending some time with them. Kids can get jealous of work, especially when it’s done at home, so when you set aside reward time and spend it doing something they love – reading or playing games or doing homework together – you reinforce their good behaviour and help create responsible, respectful kids.
Block time out: It’s not always family and friends that get in the way of work-at-home focus. It can be difficult to leave messes, phone calls or personal to-do lists alone when evidence of them is everywhere around you. This is one challenge which trips up many people, and can be effectively dealt with by using good time management. Spend a little time each week or each evening on your business, as opposed to spending it all in your business. Make lists of both personal and work priorities, and create a schedule that will allow you to get both done in certain blocks of time. For instance, commit to working for three hours in the morning and then give yourself a two-hour personal block, in which you eat, answer personal calls and email and do a load of laundry.
Take breaks and treat yourself well: The opposite challenge to the point above is when people find it difficult to stop working. The line between work and home can get very blurred, especially if you have no separate work area in your home. To avoid burn-out and to ensure balance, you must be sure to give yourself regular breaks and to take time for personal pursuits, such as eating regularly, exercising, and getting fresh air, not to mention seeing friends and family and generally maintaining healthy social interaction. Remember that you wanted flexibility, not a new jail!

With these tips in mind, you can create a balanced and effective work-at-home environment that works for everyone involved and ensures you get the job done!

Eating vegetables is an easy way to help a poor diet become healthier again. It is proven that vegetables contain a number of antioxidants that may help to stop certain cancers from forming in the body. These antioxidants also help the body to repair after long bouts of stress and illness, and help to protect the body in the future.

Vegetables are also good sources of fiber. Because of the high levels of fiber found in vegetables, the digestive system is able to remain healthier and more toned. Consuming more fiber in your diet prevents you from having constipation, colon cancer, and polyps. Combined with the fiber, eating vegetables also tends to make a person feel fuller for longer, and curbs unnecessary snacking.

Vegetables contain a number of vitamins and minerals which are beneficial to the human diet. These vitamins and minerals are needed by the body on a daily basis, and they also help the body stay healthy so that it can prevent or cope with disease and injury. Other health benefits of vegetables can be found in the phytonutrients which they contain. These nutrients do not appear to be immediately necessary to the human diet, but they seem to confer some benefits such as protection against cardiovascular disease. As evidenced in numerous dietary studies, diabetes, some cancers, kidney disease, stroke, and bone loss appear to be at least partially preventable with a high intake of vegetables.

In following a low calorie vegetarian diet, it is a good idea to eat a rainbow of colors.  Vegetables of different colors have varying levels of vitamins and minerals, and by eating a range of colors, people can ensure that they get the full arrray of nutrients they need.
