Making money online is a dream many people wish to come true, but it takes years of research and trail and error (read failure) to learn what works and what doesn’t. What separates the internet millionaires from the wannabes? A full time salary while working from home as my own boss was my dream since I busted my knee at work six years ago.
For five years I tried everything to create an online home business working after after spending the day at my day job. As a person with no computer training I didn’t know if I could break into this fantasy world of fast and ever flowing cash. That was because I didn’t know what to do. I had no clue at all.
During my sixth year I am my own boss, working from home, and I realized that if I had all this information six years ago I could have been working for myself full time in a month or two. And if I can do it anyone can, and I will show you why and how.
One smart thing I did was document everything I did and tried. Five years worth of “learning from my failures”. With this information I realized the secret to making a successful start in this business is having one single plan to focus on and implement, rather than running in circles while trying different methods.
I asked this unassuming guy in shorts and sandals at a conference in Vancouver how his business was going and he said “I only have one product and I launched it on Tuesday, it is doing pretty good”. Later in our conversation he told me how he launched a product on that Monday and he had more than 2,000 orders in less than a week. I ran to my computer and checked to see how much his product was selling for and calculated that he brought in more than $46,000 in less than one week!
Ok, I could write an entire War and Peace sized novel on all the bumps I hit during those five years, and it would likely make for a great drama, or comedy depending on how you look at it. I worked up from laborer to water treatment plant operator to management.
I was suffocating working in an office and working for someone else… and having ADD made this a form of cruel torture. A year ago I decided to quite my career to focus on researching this elusive “Internet Riches” world that I kept reading about.
POINT 1: TYPE OF BUSINESS TO START
The first thing I did was thought about what the ultimate business would be and decided on the following criteria:
Low risk
Low startup cost
Passive income (do it once and receive checks for life)
High or unlimited earning potential
Repeatable process (do it once and repeat process over and over)
FREEDOM to be my own boss and work when, where, and how I choose
Work from home office or any Internet connection in the world
Enjoyable – It had to be something that I wanted to do, not had to do
After five years of researching the secret to making money online I finally realized that creating information products was one of the easiest and most profitable methods. This was good news for me as anyone can create an information product in a very short period.
Once I chose this path I spent six months reading forums, articles, and buying every book and ebook on the subject. I created a special document that contained all the tips and advice that I read over those six months and that was the most valuable thing that I have done in my entire life.
Once I started to write my first ebook I just followed my 3T notes (tips, tricks, and techniques). Most of these tips and advice came from deep within forums or I developed myself. These were not published in any books, perhaps the gurus don’t like to share all the information needed that would create competition for them.
Ok, you may be wondering “ok, so perhaps I can create an info product without too much effort, but what then?” Well, the easiest and most profitable way is to have thousands of affiliates sell it for you. Why pay for promoting and marking your own product if others will do it for you? There are affiliate network sites where more than 100,000 affiliates can promote my ebook for me and they pay for the advertising.
If I had access to a single book or website that provided all of the information in one location the entire process would have taken less than one month. As it is I now work full time from my home office where I work the hours that I want to work, not hours that are dictated to my by a boss. And I just returned from a month long trip through the UK while “working”. Well, I was checking my email, but that is all I needed to do.
Self publishing books used to seem to be only for the elite writers with lots of money and connections with publishers. Well, I know know that is not the case. After six months of research I have finally found how anyone can self publish their book on a shoe-string budget while making your book available almost anywhere in the world. And I learned how you can keep 50% of the sales price, which certainly beats the 10% you might get with a traditional publisher.
Of course you need a book before you need self publishing information. If you haven’t written one yet you will be happy to know that it is actually quite easy. The simplest book to right is a how-to book on a topic that you are familiar with and hopefully enjoy. Do a little research on Amazon to see what non-fiction how-to books are selling well to help you pick a topic. Ok, actually there is an easier way and that is to outsource to highly skilled writers at very reasonable cost using websites like Elance. There is actually a more cost effective strategy that I have learned, but I haven’t decided if I wish to give away that information yet… perhaps in another article.

Save a thousand dollars by formatting your book yourself using Microsoft Word
Save thousands by using print on demand (POD) rather than paying to purchase the minimum number of books from the publisher
Make much more money per book sale
Control – You are in control, not a publisher who may or may not look out for your best interest
Own your work rather than giving up rights to a publisher
One – You are focusing on the success of your book only whereas publishers have thousands of clients
Options – You get to chose how to market your book rather than be dictated what to do, which book signs to go to, which events to show up to, etc. Publishers will expect you to pump lots of YOUR money into promoting your book, they won’t fund it for you.
Speed – Once you self publish one book you will become very fast at getting future books to market compared to waiting on a publisher for each step of the process
It comes down to a simple question “do you want to do it the easy way or the hard way?”, which stated another way is “do you want to make it or not?”.
